Position Summary
Petersburg Medical Center is looking for a Speech Language Pathologist to join our rehabilitation team. This full time position entails servicing both adult and pediatric populations with a variety of medical conditions in a variety of settings, including Acute, Inpatient, Outpatient, Long Term Care and Home Health patients. Direct patient care includes (but limited to) evaluation and treatment of dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia of speech, cognitive deficits and reception / expressive language deficits.

Rehabilitation Director

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Evaluating, treating and providing patient-centered evidence-based rehabilitation care to diagnostically diverse adult and pediatric populations in a variety of settings, including Inpatient, Outpatient, Home Health and Long Term Care
  • Providing clinically appropriate and evidence-based speech, language and swallowing evaluations and treatment methods (including functional tasks) for aphasia, dysphagia, dysarthria, voice and cognitive-linguistic disorders
  • Administering Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), completing FEES specific reports
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans and monitor patient progress
  • Presenting at medical rounds, staff and family meetings
  • Closely monitoring patients' progress and adjusted treatments accordingly
  • Posting service charges in electronic health record system, completing documentation in a timely manner and auditing patients' charts in accordance with Medicare / Medicaid requirements
Qualifications
  • Education. Graduate of an accredited Master's or Doctorate-level program in Speech Language Pathology
  • Work Experience. Greater than one year of clinic unsupervised experience preferred; for SLP CC required, greater than one year of clinical unsupervised experience preferred
  • Licensure / Certification. Must be eligible for current licensure with the Alaska State Speech Language Pathology of Examiners. Must hold Certificate of Clinical Competence. BLS required upon employment. For SLP CF: must be eligible for temporary state license
Skills / Abilities
  • Basic computer skills (i.e. Outlook, Microsoft Office, medical charts, EMRs)
  • Ability to efficiently schedule and perform patient care independently
  • Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA
Environmental / Physical Requirements
  • Direct patient contact, including potential exposure to chemicals, blood and / or other bodily fluids
  • Standing, stood and mild-moderate physical labor to complete certain tasks
  • Other physical demands related to duties of a SLP
