Position Description

The Materials Assistant works in the Purchasing Department with the Materials Manager.  The Assistant helps when / where needed to ensure the Medical Center has the needed equipment, stock and supplies to operate.  The job includes but is not limited to:

  • Mail - Meter all outgoing mail / packages and take to the Post Office
  • Retrieve incoming mail from Post Office Box. Stamp all mail "Received" with the current date and deliver to proper in-house mail boxes.  Deliver packages to the correct department
  • Receive, sticker and put away new stock when it comes in using departments proper procedures
  • Input outdates in Excel spreadsheet when received
  • Re-stock departments and fulfil any requisition for supplies sent to Materials Management
  • Expense items to correct departments when taken from inventor daily
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • High School diploma with some college, experience in healthcare environment and with inventory preferable
  • This job requires frequent bending, walking and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Computer experience helpful, especially Excel, Word, Outlook and the ability to type
  • Able to deal with high demand, fast paced multi-departmental hospital needs.  The individual must be highly organized and task oriented.  Must possess the ability to prioritize responsibilities and handle multiple requests simultaneously
