Position Summary
The primary duty and function of the Health IT Support Specialist is to enhance the efficiency of the hardware and software system at Petersburg Medical Center. The support specialist will provide "at the elbow" support and troubleshoot assistance to providers and staff as needed for facilitating optimal EHR workflow. This position will work closely with the information technology team members to validate the efficiency of training and obtain departmental objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Provide frontline technical support to healthcare professionals and staff for EHR and other healthcare IT systems.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to healthcare IT systems.
  • Assist with the configuration, installation, and maintenance of healthcare IT applications and systems.
  • Provide training to physicians and other clinicians in their use of an electronic patient chart and the function of computerized physician order entry.
  • Assist the clinical staff in compliance procedures and accessing medical records information.
  • Gain in-depth understanding of clinical and operational workflows in order to develop and implement workflow documentation for training clinical software applications.
  • Support PMC staff by providing technical support, troubleshooting and identifying opportunities for technical systems improvement.
  • Report technology issues in a timely manner.
  • Advanced ability to respond and resolve help desk issues through the PMC "ticketing" system.
  • Build rapport and promote teamwork by maintaining professional and positive attitude in learning environments at all times, working to maintain open and professional lines of communication with all end users and colleagues.
  • Excellent communication - written and oral - in complex area and with a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrate advanced ability to operate, multiple software applications (Microsoft office, dictation / transcription platforms, etc.) and other technologies as necessary.
  • Maintain professional appearance and approach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Avanced technical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong group processing, coaching, and interpersonal and social perceptiveness skills required.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to stay calm in fast-paced, high stress situations while maintaining exceptional teamwork stills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows-Based computer programs: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Exchange.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Understand and maintain the compliance of the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinic Health (HITECH) Act.
Job Relationships
The Health IT Support Specialist position reports to the Chief Information Officer.

Education
High School Graduate with experience in Information Technology - work with technology and computer systems is a plus. Bachelor's degree preferred with emphasis in technology. Basical knowledge of medical terminology helpful.
