Position Summary
This seasonal summer position will lead the part-day Kinder Skog Forest Kindy program including developing and implementing curriculum and leading daily activities. Rooted in the belief that children learn best through play and experiences, the Forest Kindy teacher will provide a learning environment that enriches learning through a place-based approach. The goal of Forest Kindy is to keep youth ages 5-6 engaged and learning throughout the summer months and to keep the spark of curiosity burning while working with our school district to support learning goals. The Forest Kindy teacher will implement the curriculum and be a role model for prosocial behaviors such as effective communication, turn-taking, healthy risk-taking, and discussion of feelings/emotions.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum.
- Prepare daily activities and lessons to align with curriculum.
- Keep participants safe in a variety of settings and during a variety of moderate-risk activities.
- Promote a safe, nurturing, healthy, and positive environment for children.
- Be aware of and comply with Petersburg Medical Center and youth program policies.
- Maintain participant confidentiality.
- Properly store gear, restock items as needed or communicate gear/supply needs to the Youth Program Coordinator.
- Role Model and help participants learn about wearing proper gear for weather and activities.
- Other Duties as assigned related to the position.
- Ability to plan and implement curriculum and lessons within a classroom setting
- Above average customer service and interpersonal skills
- Above average communication skills with adults and children
- Ability to be flexible and react appropriately to changing priorities
- Ability to lead, train and motivate children
- Skills and experience in working with children
- Comfortable working in outdoor settings in all-weather with children
- Willingness to attend further education, trainings or certifications related to early childhood development
- Knowledge of child development, parent-child relationships, and early childhood education practices is preferred.
- This position primarily involves outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- The role will involve physically demanding tasks, including, but not limited to, hiking, lifting gear, and setting up outdoor activities.
- Education: High School diploma/GED preferred
- Two (2) year(s), preferred, developing and/or implementing curriculum with children
- Must be 18 years of age or older to apply
- Background Check. Employment is contingent on the successful completion of a background investigation conducted through the State of Alaska in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Drug Screening. All employees must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening, which includes testing for marijuana.
- Immunization Compliance. Employees are required to meet all immunization requirements as mandated by the State of Alaska and Federal regulations governing healthcare facilities.
