Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team as the Facility Engineer. The Facility Engineer will support the oversight and maintenance of PMC's physical plant, infrastructure and mechanical systems. This role ensures all facilities comply with local, state and federal safety regulations and codes. Responsibilities will include contributing to the planning, design, and training efforts related to a replacement facility in coordination with design and construction teams, contractors, inspectors and PMC leadership. Additionally, the Facility Engineer will assist in developing and supporting workflows, preventive maintenance programs and staff training initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the hospital's physical plant, infrastructure, and mechanical equipment.
- Plan and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure the reliability and safety of all hospital facilities.
- Assist in the coordination with outside contractors and vendors to complete repairs and maintenance projects as needed.
- Ensure that all hospital facilities comply with local, state and federal safety standards and codes, as well as policies for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
- Develop and implement programs for new facility mechanicals, ensuring that they are knowledgeable and skilled in maintaining and operating hospital facilities.
- Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement energy conservation programs and sustainability.
- Assist in the development of a comprehensive inventory of all hospital equipment and assets.
- Assist in the management of the hospital's safety and emergency preparedness programs, including fire drills, hazardous materials management and other safety related activities.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on all hospital facilities, including HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical and other mechanical system.
- Assist in providing accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance activities, repairs and upgrades.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Operators Engineering Program Certificate / License or equivalent. Two years of experience as a facilities engineer, equipment operator or mechanic preferred. Healthcare setting preferred but not necessary.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in facilities engineering, equipment operation, or mechanical systems. Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
- Preferred experience in commercial refrigeration systems, including installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of -- or a willingness to receive training in -- local, state, and federal safety regulations and codes, as well as policies for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
- Experience in energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software applications.
- Ability to work flexible hours and be on call for emergencies.
- Must be able to pass a State of Alaska background check and drug screen (including Marijuana).
Work Conditions
Works in a clean well-lit environment around patients, residents, family members and employees. May work at PMC's Wellness, Education & Resource Center (WERC) building or onsite at PMC main campus.
- Must be physically able to perform required lifting, bending, stooping and crawling.
- Must be able to handle responsibility of call-out and respond in a timely fashion.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

This position reports to the Plant Operations Manager.
