Facilities Maintenance Technician
Reports To
Plant Operations Manager
FLSA Status - Non-Exempt
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Plant Operations Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Technician supports the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of Petersburg Medical Center's facilities, grounds, and building systems.
This position performs preventive maintenance, routine inspections, repairs, and general facility upkeep to ensure a safe environment for patients, residents, staff and visitors. The position participates in on-call rotations, and assists in emergency response related to facility operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs assigned preventive maintenance on facility systems, equipment, and grounds in accordance with established schedules and regulatory standards
- Conducts routine inspections of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, safety equipment, and grounds
- Troubleshoots and repairs facility equipment and building systems within scope of training and licensure
- Assists with maintenance of life safety systems including fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, and backup power systems
- Performs minor construction, carpentry, painting, and repair work as needed
- Maintains exterior grounds, including snow removal, sanding, debris removal, and general beautification
- Documents maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs in accordance with facility policy
- Responds to maintenance service requests in a timely and professional manner
- Participates in emergency preparedness activities and responds to urgent facility issues as required
- Serves in an on-call capacity during non-work hours as scheduled
- Assists other departments with facility-related support as needed as appropriate
- Performs other duties as assigned
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, and working confined spaces
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to respond to emergency call-outs in a timely manner
- May be exposed to mechanical equipment, cleaning agents, and out weather conditions
- Must comply with all safety and infection control standards
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in general maintenance, facilities operations, or related field preferred
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical systems
- Valid and current driver's license
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
Requirements for Employment
- Background Check. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation conducted through the State of Alaska in accordance with applicable regulations
- Drug Screening. All employees must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening, which includes testing for marijuana
- Immunization Compliance. Employees are required to meet all immunization requirements as mandated by the State of Alaska and Federal regulations governing healthcare facilities
