Dietary Assistant / Aide

Job Summary
The Dietary Assistant when working the am position cleans the dietary area including the employee break room, storeroom, dietary office, locker room/bathroom, kitchen, elevator and surrounding hallways. The assistant pours beverages and sets up food trays according to diet lists; dismantles trays; washes all dishes and puts them away. The assistant sets trays for the next meal, cleans the work area and assists with serving food or helping the cook as needed.

The assistant cleans/stocks the break room in the afternoon; fills requisitions on the weekends and does assigned weekly chores.

Responsibilities

· Pouring of beverages for our LTC and Acute Care.

· Serving resident meals

· Maintaining a clean work environment

· Washing dishes

· Fulfilling food requisitions for our LTC and Acute Care.

· Labeling & dating of food according to department policy

· Empties kitchen garbage

· Cleans trays and food carts

· Stocks, organizes and puts away supplies

· Assists the cook with other duties as requested

· Sweeps & mops


Experience

  • Food Service Preferred, however not required
  • Will train the right person

Physical Demands

· Work requires standing for most of the shift. Includes lifting, bending, squatting, reaching, and carrying heavy items (up to 50 pounds).

  • Handles and manipulates equipment, assists in the preparation of food.

Working Environment

· Works in a clean, well-lit, and ventilated kitchen. Loud noises and hot & cold temperature variations are normal. May spend extended time in walk-in freezer when putting away stock. Normal kitchen hazards are present ie: potential for cuts, burns, etc.


Qualifications:
  1. High School Graduate or Equivalent, able to speak, read, understand and write English. Physically demanding job – prepares food trays, washes, cleans.
  2. Must be able to pass a State of Alaska Background Check and drug screen (including Marijuana).
