Clinic Reception / Admissions.
Summary.
The Clinic Reception / Admissions position serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. This role includes patient registration, scheduling, and communication, while supporting timely patient flow and accurate medical record documentation. Thie position requires strong organizational, communication and customer service skills, along with the ability to manage confidential information and collaborate with clinical and administrative staff.
Responsibilities.
- Understands, promotes and follows the Mission and Guiding Values of Petersburg Medical Center.
- Responsible for receptionist duties at the clinic, greets the patients and ensures timely patient flow, informing staff when patients are ready to be seen. Provides information to patients and visitors and directs patients or visitors to other areas of the hospital.
- Responsible for all admissions and registration tasks, including collecting insurance information, entering and updating patient data, obtaining visit consents, and initiating workers' compensation and fisherman fund paperwork as needed.
- Schedules appointments using sound judgement based on the information provided by patients during calls and seeks assistance from nursing or medical staff when needed for same-day scheduling.
- Assists the Reception Lead with electronic medical records (EMR) scheduling blocks for meetings and blocking patient scheduler.
- Checks insurance eligibility through the EMR system for each scheduled appointment. Inputs patient chief complaint for each patient visit.
- Answers the telephone and directs calls to appropriate staff.
- Cross-trains with Medical Records to assist with release of information requests for records or transfers request to the Medical Records clerk.
- Assist with daily mail pick-up and distribution to the appropriate staff or departments.
- Scans medical records into the EMR.
- Assist with front desk staff rotation with opening and maintains availability to work or cover Saturdays as needed.
- Must be able to communicate well with co-workers and patients. Must maintain a professional relationship with staff and patients at all times. Strong organizational skills. Ability to handle confidential information as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions.
Works in a clean, well-lit environment around patients, residents, family members and employees. May use a computer, fax machine and basic office equipment. Will need to have the ability to work correctly and efficiently while engaging with staff.
Qualifications.
High school graduate with some college preferred. A minimum of 2 years office experience, including computer and typing skills. Must like to work with people and receptive to dealing with people who are ill, injured or upset. A calm, caring, professional attitude and excellent phone etiquette are essential. Basic medical knowledge is helpful.

Employment Requirements Include --
- Background Check. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation conducted through the State of Alaska in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Drug Screening. All employees must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening, which includes testing for marijuana.
- Immunization Compliance. Employees are required to meet all immunization requirements as mandated by the State of Alaska and Federal regulations governing healthcare facilities.
