Position Description

Position.
Clinic Reception / Admissions. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team in the Clinic Reception / Admissions area.

Responsibilities.
  • Understands, promotes and follows the Mission and Guiding Values of Petersburg Medical Center.
  • Responsible for receptionist duties at the clinic, greets the patients and ensures timely patient flow, informing staff when patients are ready to be seen. Provides information to patients and visitors and directs patients or visitors to other areas of the hospital.
  • Manages all admissions and registration tasks, including collecting insurance information, entering and updating patient data, obtaining visit consents, and initiating workers' compensation and fisherman fund paperwork as needed.
  • Schedules appointments using sound judgement based on the information provided by patients during calls and seeks assistance from nursing or medical staff when needed for same-day scheduling.
  • Cross-trained with Medical Records to assist with Release of Information (ROI) requests for records or transfers request to the appropriate Medical Records Clerk.
  • Assists with daily facility mail pickup and distribution to the appropriate staff or departments.
  • Scans medical records into the EMR.
  • Assists with front desk staff rotation for opening and closing the clinic and may be available to work Saturdays as needed.
  • Must communicate effectively with both coworkers and patients while maintaining a professional relationship at all times.
  • Requires strong organizational skills and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions.
Works in a clean, well-lit environment around patients, residents, family members and employees. May use a computer, fax machine and basic office equipment. Will need to have the ability to work correctly and efficiently while engaging with staff.

Qualifications.
High school graduate with some college preferred. A minimum of 2 years office experience, including computer and typing skills. Must like to work with people and receptive to dealing with people who are ill, injured or upset. A calm, caring, professional attitude and excellent phone etiquette are essential. Basic medical knowledge is helpful.

  • Must be able to pass a State of Alaska Background Check and drug screen (including Marijuana).
