Job Summary
The Administrative Diet Aide may perform duties as an Administrative Diet Aide for part of the shift with additional duties of Diet Aide for the remainder of the shift. The Administrative Diet Aide helps managers provide patient and resident centered food service with focus on patient choice and excellence in dignity in dining.
Responsibilities include helping update diet lists, tray tickets, distributes and fills out menus according to patient selections or preferences. Helps patients / residents make meal selections. Communicates special requests to cooks / managers. May help implement and /or develop dietary software by creating tallies, inputting menus, patient data, and more as the program develops. May need help coordinating with nursing staff to know how many acute / outpatient / guest meals are needed. Communicates daily with managers any changes in patient's preferences and status. Checks floor stock in Acute and Long Term Care kitchenettes: check for expired products, and creates, fills and puts away grocery / requisition food supplies. Follows all patient safety, care plans, and hygiene requirements for LTC / Medicare compliance. Helps evolve the patient centered care dining experience by performing other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Updates patient data on tray cards and / or computer system.
- Takes meal orders from patients, residents, and / or family members.
- Print tray tickets.
- Creates and / or prints tallies.
- Trained in use of Dietary Software - input menus, patient data, preferences, etc.
- Serves resident meals / trayline.
- Maintains clean work area.
- Creates, fulfills, and delivers / stocks food supplies / requisitions for our Long Term Care and Acute Care. Checks and rotates stock.
- Labeling and dating of food according to department policy.
- Performs duties / responsibilities of Diet Aide position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience
- Diet Aide or Diet Tech preferred.
- Ability to use computer and software including Outlook email, Word, and Excel; experience with dietary software is a plus.
Physical Demands
- Work requires standing for most of the shift. Includes walking, lifting, bending, squatting, reaching, pushing / pulling and / or carrying heavy items.
- Sits at a computer for part of the day: sitting, repetitive movement of wrists, hands and fingers.
- Handles and manipulates equipment, assists in the preparation of food.
Working Environment:
- Works in a clean, well-lit, and ventilated kitchen. Loud noises and hot and cold temperatures variations are normal. May spend extended time in walk-in freezer when putting away stock. Normal kitchen hazards are present i.e., potential for cuts, burns etc.
- Works in fast-paced and busy environment with lots of distractions.
- Has direct patient contact (face-to-face) with the possibility of being in contact with contagious illnesses and follows appropriate precautions in situatons of contagious illnesses. Understand that patients / residents may not feel well, and may be grumpy, moody, and Administrative Diet Aide may be exposed to verbal abuse. Able to de-escalate situations as needed and know when to walk-away and re-approach another time / day.
Qualifications
- Education. High school graduate or GED preferred. Ability to speak, read and write English. Follow guidelines and written directions.
- Pass a State of Alaska Background Check and drug screen (including Marijuana).
Accountability
Report to the Food Service Manager.
