Job Summary
The Activities Coordinator for the Adult Day Program will be responsible for the planning and supervision of the activities schedule and programming for the Adult Day Program in the Home Health Agency at Petersburg Medical Center.
Duties Include but are not limited to:
  • Provides individual and group activities that help participants maintain independence, allows participation in past hobbies and interests, encourages social interaction and focuses on the needs and interests of the participants.
  • Works with other departments such as the Rehab therapies and Home Health to provide therapeutic and recreation and may lead activities or assist participants in maximizing active participation.
  • Plans and implements social meals and potlucks.
  • Works with LTC staff, activity staff, volunteers and community members to create a diverse and inclusive program.
  • Helps to escort participants to functions and Adult Day planned program events.
  • Keeps recreational records for each participant as needed.
  • Contributes to the development of each participant's activity plan. Suggests ongoing revisions and provides input into progress toward activity goals.
  • Provides one-on-one interaction and activities for those participants unable to participate in -group activities.
  • Maintains bulletin boards, PSAs, community notification.
  • Creates decorations for holidays and special events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • A degree in recreation therapy or closely related field preferred. Two (2) years of experience in planning and leading activities for vulnerable populations helpful.
  • Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must have patience, tact, enthusiasm and the ability to keep work related situations confidential.
  • Must possess the skills and ability to work with the aged, chronically ill, Alzheimer patients and physically handicapped.
  • The ability to classify functioning levels of participants and provide activities to meet exercise needs, cultural needs, arts, crafts, sensory stimulation programs, group and one-on-one activities and social needs as outlined.
  • Shall become CPR certified and / or maintain CPR certification.
  • Will have an Alaska driver's license and complete the training to become a certified driver of the PMC handicapped van.
  • Must be able to pass a State of Alaska Background check and drug screen (including Marijuana).
Accountability
This position reports directly to the Home Health Manager or designee.
